Mencía de Mendoza y Fonseca was born in Jadraque in 1508 and inherited the Castle and the Lordship of Ayora from his father in 1524, becoming another cog in the wheel of the multinational court of Charles V.

The ‘Mencía de Mendoza’ Festival wants to honor this moment of splendor of the arts in Villa de Ayora, intertwining historical spaces such as the Castle and the Church of Santa María la Mayor and the figure of Doña Mencía, patron and lover of music, arts and literature. A woman of humanistic spirit who promoted all types of artistic patronage and whose library was very famous at the time.

A series of artistic activities that promote not only knowledge of part of our history but also disseminate the figure of Mencía de Mendoza and the cultural heritage of Ayora, with the intention of consolidating a tourist and cultural proposal.
